Estimate Bathroom Remodel Costs in 6 Steps

If having a beautiful home that increases in value is as essential to you as it is to me, then approach your bathroom to remodel from a position of knowledge. To help, I’m sharing exactly how I estimate bathroom remodel costs.

This blog post is about how to estimate bathroom remodel costs in 6 steps.

The scariest thing about – well, anything is the unknown. And when you don’t have any idea how much a bathroom remodel is going to cost, it is scary! Let’s figure out the cost now, shall we?!

1. Get my bathroom remodel checklist or make your own.

Download the checklist I use for every bathroom remodel to make sure I’ve selected every component in a bathroom – it’s completely free! If you have a super ability to create checklists, make one yourself, but please start a master checklist for the project!

2. Decide what you want to keep.

Did you just install a new vanity faucet a couple of months ago? Then there is absolutely no need to buy another one! Mark the items you plan to reuse off the list.

3. Shop For What You Want To Buy New.

Consult my blog, I have covered almost all of them in individual blog posts, giving tips on what I like and where to buy.

4. Keep Running Total Of Things You Need To Buy.

Once you’ve put a price in for every item, you need to buy (don’t forget sales tax and shipping/handling fees), total up the materials cost.

5. Estimate Labor Part Of Remodel.

To estimate the labor portion of your bid, I recommend taking your materials cost from #4, above, and multiplying by 2. For example, say all the materials you need a total of $5,000. You can expect to pay about $10,000 for skilled labor to install all those items for you.

6. General Contractor?

Now that you have material and labor estimates for the job, are you planning to hire a general contractor to manage the project professionally? If yes, you should take the materials and labor costs and multiply times 1.25. The result is a close approximation of what your bathroom remodel will cost you.

You should now be able to estimate bathroom remodel costs for your home. Make your space more beautiful and increase the value of your home.
